Project 3 Artist Statment

For this project the assignment was to create a video going form real life transitioning into animation. I immediately thought of doing a psychedelic esq video based on many example videos I had seen where the transition between real life and and animation was not only smooth but also made sense in the context that the person is usually tripping hard.

I settled on an opening scene where tow of my buddies are coming back form a night out and meets a sketchy alley man who offers them pills, one of the friends take a pill which gives lead way into the transition to animation. For the animation I wanted it to feel extremely random and goofy yet at the same time like there is some deeper meaning behind everything happening as I felt this encapsulates a lot of trips and trippy animations. I decided to stick with this idea of two pills and the idea of two sides, good and bad etc. as I felt this added some deeper meaning that can be interpreted differently by each viewer but at the same time kept on this goofy "red vs blue pill" reference. I added a small easter egg in the form of an audio clip of my friend saying "return the slab" a reference to the return the slab scene from a Courage the Cowardly dog episode. All in all there wasn't too much behind the animation and scenes shot, was meant to be goofy and random.
